The Staveley Solar development application by Anglian Water and TotalEnergies comes before Rutland County Council’s planning committee on Thursday December 5, 2024.
We are dismayed to see planning officers have recommended approval, despite more than 200 objections.
Should it be approved by councillors, this development of 87,000 solar panels on predominantly arable farmland will represent a disaster for Rutland.
Following the Mallard Pass decision, it’s time for the Council to say enough is enough.
Rutland Solar Action Group fundamentally disagrees with the officers’ report and recommendation, which can be viewed here.
We will be making our views known at the meeting.

Smothering Rutland’s agricultural land with a disproportionate share of industrial solar is wrong – and the Council must put a stop to it by refusing permission for this damaging development.
Solar should go on roofs, not farmland.
